Since 2001, SSE organized different events (Yearly SSE conferences), networking meetings and smaller events. The main objectives behind the conferences and other events were to gather thoughts and discuss the issues concerning the role of the Somaliland Diaspora and their development of their home country as well as host societies.

The discussions at the conferences made clear a shared feeling that a structural, long-lasting network of Somaliland organizations in Europe is vital for the cause of Somaliland organizations in Europe and the participants of the conferences stressed the importance to have a solid SSE network, which could serve as a means to exchange good practice experience within the Somaliland organizations in Europe. They also acknowledge the need for a common agenda and effective partnership to assist and support the development project in Somaliland as well as building strong link with partner organizations in Somaliland .
